Welcome! I'm Melissa

Hi! I’m Melissa!  Welcome to my blog.  I’m a 37 year old wife, daughter and mother of twin boys.  I am of Guatemalan descent and was born in Miami, Florida.  I currently live in sunny Tampa, Florida.  I started this blog to share my journey with self love and plus size fashion.
My road has been a hilly one, with many ups, downs, diets, denial, anger, confusion, self loathing, embarrassment and frumpy clothes <gasp>.  To make a long story short, I was a boney kid, boney teenager, size four in my early twenties and then BAM! I suddenly gained all this weight, became a size twelve, and I could not figure out why.  I assumed the reason was self inflicted, after all, there was a lot of binge drinking, eating out and I had stopped exercising six days a week.  It wasn’t until six months after I gave birth to my kids, that I found out that I had thyroid cancer.  It explained so much! Thankfully, I have not had any detectable cancer for almost a year.
My body has been through so much in the past couple of years: an incredibly difficult pregnancy, emergency gallbladder removal, thyroid and lymph node removal, and radiation.  I knew it was time to give my mind and body some love.  I’ve learned to embrace my curves, my rolly tummy, my thick thighs and I’m finally ok with wearing sleeveless shirts.  This is me.  This is my body and it’s not perfect and I am OK with that.   In fact, I’m happy with myself and my life.  Some may say that fashion is superficial and that there should be more to life than material goods- yes, kind of.  Of course having an amazing support system of family and friends is the most important thing in life, but I would also say that being mentally happy is equally as important.  Nothing makes me feel happier than having access to cute clothes that fit me, a size 14 top 16 bottom, properly.  I truly believe fashion has the power to change how you feel about yourself.
I am so thankful to all the plus size models, bloggers and everyday women that put themselves out there and have declared and campaigned that it is ok to love yourself at any size.  The Retailers are listening!  There are so many cute and chic options out there for us thicker women!  Beauty is more than your size and I can not wait to share all my fashion and beauty ideas with you!  Thank you for reading 💋
